Frequently Asked Questions

Yoga Journal Answers top Beginner FAQs

What is yogaRX?
yogaRX is a class specifically designed to complement our WODs at CrossFit Stapleton.  The mobility work we do will both help you recover from CrossFit workouts and build stamina to help safely execute movements during the workouts.

Do I have to have yoga experience to join?
Absolutely not!  I will guide you through step-by-step to be successful in every asana (posture).  The more you come, the more progress you will see and muscle memory will help you through the practice so you don't rely as much on verbal cues.  At any level there are ways to modify to advance or build to the full pose.  We have blocks and straps to help in any asana.

What do I bring to my first yoga class?
You should bring yourself!  Getting to class is the most important step.  From there you may want to bring a towel, water, and a mat.  We have mats provided as well.  A towel could help if you want to put it over a rental mat.  Shoes and socks are not needed.

How much does it cost?
If you have an unlimited membership at CF Stapleton the class is free to you.  Walk-ins are $10 for CF Stapleton members and $15 for community members.  A month membership for just yoga is an option that costs $50.

Where do we meet?
Come to class about 5 minutes early to sign in, set up, and find a spot in the room.  The yoga room is inside CF Stapleton immediately to the right when you walk in.

Why should I come?
Yoga is a self-study.  You should come to clear your head, rejuvenate, and mobilize.  Every class has an intention and a purpose that drives the practice.  Have an open mind to dedicate your time to a cause in your life.  This helps us to feel more purposeful in our minds and bodies.

What should I wear?
You can wear anything comfortable.  Bare feet and workout clothes!

Are you a certified teacher?
I am!  I took a 200-hr teacher training on Oahu, Hawaii with the Hawaii Yoga Institute.  It was a month-long program every day, all day.  It is an accredited school.  I have been practicing yoga for 4 years.  There are many types of yoga.  I love practicing all types, but I am a power yoga/vinyasa teacher.

What kind of yoga do we do?
Power yoga is flowing through basic movements to build our capacity, endurance, and mobility.  We will be holding poses longer to gain strength and muscle memory.  Vinyasa is a series of movements in between "flows" (sequences on both sides of the body).  Vinyasa helps us synchronize the pranayama (breath) with each movement to maximize efficiency.  I cue the breathing; it helps with fluidity of movement.  A vinyasa in between flows would be chaturanga (low push-up)-->updog/cobra-->downward facing dog.

Are pictures allowed?
I can take pictures upon request.  I might also be taking pictures of the class periodically at times when it will not distract students.

Are there snacks?
We will be providing tea for students after class is over.

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
Yoga mats are optional.  If you are still trying out the class and aren't quite ready to make the investment to purchasing your own mat, you are welcome to use the gym's mats.  I recommend bringing a towel to layer over the mat.

Is talking allowed?
CF Stapleton has a great community.   It can be tempting to talk during class.  Talking is recommended before or after class.  During class, you can always ask me a question if the pose is uncomfortable or you're unclear of what it's supposed to look like.  Just wave me over and I'll be happy to assist!

If you have more questions, please feel free to send me a message.  I'd love to hear from you!
